Civil Grad Field Trip
The Civil Graduating Class of 2011 attended a field trip to Las Vegas, Nevada for the end of
October 2010. On this interesting and educational trip students were given the opportunity to tour facilities and projects that they would otherwise not have a chance to view in Vancouver.
UBC Mining Engineering Graduation Field Trip
The UBC Mining Engineering Graduation Field Trip has proven to provide an invaluable exposure to the international aspect of mining and an opportunity to celebrate the differences in culture and industry experience across the globe. Due to the nature of our profession, the majority of our graduates will be working outside of the metropolitan setting, and even overseas.
Materials Engineering Third Year Field Trip
The field trip was a week-long tour of production and research companies within the materials engineering industry in the southern Ontario region for third year materials engineering students in October 2010.
IEEE Germany Field Trip
This twelve day trip to Germany provided a rare opportunity for UBC students to visit companies and universities near Dusseldorf, Cologne, Ladenburg, Berlin, and Munich. These visits allowed students to learn about professional engineering, and witness the technology being developed through a series of lab tours and presentations from corporations and research institutions.
2011 SME Meeting and Exhibit – CONF 8
The Society for Mining, Metallurgy, and Exploration (SME) is the largest North American society for the mining industry. This year’s annual conference was held in Denver, Colorado and was attended by 12 undergrad students and several faculty members. The students involved established a booth at the conference and represented our school at numerous events.
Mining Games 2010-11 Team
The Canadian Mining Games is an annual academic and technical competition held between 10 of Canada’s Universities. Each year, 12 UBC Mining Engineering students are selected to compete at the games. The 2011 Games were held in Edmonton at the Univeristy of Alberta.
GEO Grad Field Trip
The Georox graduating class field trip was a new initiative this year to provide a learning and bonding experience for graduating students. It was a 6 day tour of significant geological engineering sites and structures in Utah and Nevada during reading week this year.
GEOROX Field Trip
Geological Engineering’s student club, GeoRox, organized a successful field trip this year; open to students of all years within the program. This year the trip visited several sites of geological engineering significance.
Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education (AASHE) 2010 Conference: Denver, Colorado
This research allowed for a piloted project on analyzing sustainability within individual projects involving GHG emissions, energy and material consumption, as well as general perspectives of all CHBE department members.
