How the program has supported you
Thanks to the support of PAF, UBC Orbit is able to continue its goal of training students through the realization of a satellite mission while getting closer to having something in space. The funds were used to source parts, equipment, and manufacturing, all of which are essential to the hands-on experience students look for in a design team. This year we had a focus on having the capabilities and skills to assemble & test our custom hardware for the satellite. Thanks to the funds from PAF, we were able to have more boards for members to experiment and learn with.
With these new skills and parts we can ensure we are in a solid position to build from in the upcoming year. Allowing us to keep building the satellite, and for members to tackle more interesting problems.
Outcomes
Our team made significant progress in all areas of the development of ALEASAT. We had over 50 members actively involved in the design and we managed to fully develop most systems of the project. This year, we hosted an independent design review, we presented our work at the International Astronautical Congress in Dubai, and at Radio Amateur’s of Canada’s AGM. Thanks to these presentations our members were able to experience presenting their technical works, while getting essential feedback and forming important industry connections. We were also able to create a partnership with MDA, Canada’s most important aerospace company which we aim will be a long term partnership that will help enable our members to pursue a degree in aerospace.
