How the program has supported you

The goal of Formula UBC Racing (FUBC) is to enhance its member education through an extracurricular project. Working in an environment that simulates a real life job develops technical knowledge as well as countless soft skills including communication, leadership, planning, budgeting and many more.

This year, FUBC built and raced a formula style car against 99 other university teams from all across the world. In order to create a competitive car the team must use a variety of custom tools and materials. PAF supports the professional development of FUBC members by providing funds for these tools and supplies. Over the past year PAF funding was specifically used for purchasing carbon, competition logistical costs, data acquisition, and vehicle components.

Outcomes

With the support of PAF, Formula UBC Racing was able to finish off our 2022 vehicle and attend the annual FSAE Michigan Competition. The past year was spent improving on our 2019 with new engine auxiliary systems, a new aero package and new suspension components. Once complete, 34 students took the car down to Michigan to compete in the 2022 FSAE competition.

Overall the team placed 35th with notable placings in the Acceleration event (11th) and Cost event (16th). There were 99 teams that competed at this event. Building this car was an excellent learning experience for all our 65 members. Each person contributed to the car in one way or another gaining experience in design, manufacturing, leadership, risk management and other important engineering skills.
