How the program has supported you
The program has provided us funding to purchase materials to build the prototype of our glove as well as provide our members with opportunities to further their engineering skills. As mentioned, we have successfully built a prototype of the glove as well as a beta version of the video game. This would not be possible without the necessary support by APSC, PAF and its donors. Our members had the opportunity to learn about concept generation, CAD models and prototyping. Members also had the opportunity to work with Arduinos and sensors, which are quite commonly found in engineering projects. These resources were able to be purchased through the support of PAF.
Outcomes
We spent the fall filtering out mechanical design concepts, electrical work on Arduinos and sensor connections. For the later part of the fall and early winter, we were working on the gaming application. This included researching and designing the video game concept from scratch. The game had to be engaging while incorporating a variety of hand movements to exercise different muscles. During this time, the electrical and mechanical team were working on glove prototyping which included successfully attaching the sensors onto the glove. The software team has completed a beta version of the application and out electrical and mechanical teams have completed a glove prototype with all necessary sensors and Bluetooth connection.
